Gilmour & Co have been in business for more than 20 years. We are experts at providing a fixed price services – call us and see how we can help. Our book-keeping service is often tied in with the VAT service.
All businesses must keep accurate records of their financial transactions, HM Revenue & Customs are penalising companies more and more for not doing so. We will inform you of exactly what documents you need to keep, how they should keep them and for how long.
We are flexible when it comes to bookkeeping, we can take care of the bookkeeping requirements completely or have very little input and sometimes none at all, it all comes down to our your company’s specific needs.
It is normal practice for us to put a bookkeeping system in place for companies to use and we take the data from them for the annual accounts at the year end.
When preparing a set of final accounts all financial transactions of the business will be recorded in “Journals or “subsidiary books” each “journal” will be totalled and balanced. They are then transferred to the main ledgers and balanced. The purpose of recording keeping like this is to find out the profit or loss the business has made and to look at the assets and liabilities at the end of the year. All transactions are recorded in what’s called a “double entry” bookkeeping system.
All totals in the journals are then taken to what’s called a trial balance; this is a good way of making sure all entries in the ledgers are correct and for making adjustments. It also helps to prepare the Profit & Loss account and Balance sheet.
In the past these works would be carried out manually by a bookkeeper, the introduction of computers has also brought along bookkeeping software. Bookkeeping software has decreased errors and increased efficiency for accountants and businesses.
Keeping the books up to date can be a hassle for clients but with our vast experience it’s just part of the job.
